While excavating a stretch of road between Cambridgeshire and Bedfordshire, scientists discovered Bronze Age artifacts. Their find is believed to be a loom weight.
Prior to this discovery, the only pre-Iron Age artifacts found in the area were stone arrowheads, making this load a unique and valuable addition to the archaeological heritage.
The loom weight, while an “unusual” artifact, provides valuable information about ancient textile production methods.
If its dating to the Bronze Age (2500-800 BC) can be confirmed, it may indicate that human habitation in the area reaches much further back than previously thought.
In addition to the sinker, the researchers found other artifacts that help reconstruct a comprehensive picture of life in this particular region of Britain several millennia ago. One of them is a Roman stylus, which was used to write on wax tablets.
